Raising Ryan Melanoma March 2017
Story
Dear friends and family,
Finding a cure for melanoma is close to my heart which is why I'm asking you to support me for Melanoma March 2017 with a little bit of a twist.
This year I'm starting earlier and bringing you along on a journey along the Camino Way in Spain. I am starting this walk in Septemer with my 3 yr old son and a friend. We aim to travel the last 115km on the Camino from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela, walking as much of this as we can given my health situation and stamina. Walking the Camino has been a long held dream of mine and I am hoping to raise awareness about melanoma and funds for vital on-going melanoma research while walking The Way. This is a huge undertaking for me, given I have been quite sick since late last year to April this year. I promised myself when I was sick that if I felt well again I was going to truly value my health and make the most of being able bodied and active, hence walking this section of the Camino.
This is the first year the March is partnering with Fitbit to allow participants and supporters to track how many kilometres are being walked for melanoma research in the Melanoma March. I'll be hooking my Fitbit to this page so you can track our walking progress along the Camino.
Click 'Donate Now' to make a secure online donation. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a receipt via email as soon as you make a donation.
Thank you so much for your support! You can follow our journey at www.raisingryan.com.au. We are wheels-up from Brisbane to Madrid 15th Septmeber 2016 and head onto the Camino from Barbadelo (just outside of Sarria) on 21st September.
Buen Camino!
Natalie
Quick update - we completed 73kms of the 115kms over 3 days of walking and pushing Ryan in the awesome buggy. What a journey! We met amazing people and I challenged myself to go beyond where I thought my capabilities were. Unfortunately I had a recurrence while we were travelling. I am ion new treatment now which is working beautifully. For the first time in 2 years we are talking about a working towards a break in treatment. All thanks to science and the work done by organisations such as MIA. Please donate to support MIA and the wonderful work they do.
